Mandarin Oriental, Hyde Park

Luminaire were instructed by Steven Duggan Events to build both the Royal Ascot and Wimbledon Championship themes for The Carousel Bar at the Mandarin Oriental, Hyde Park London. Reimagined for the 2024 summer season throughout June and July 2024, the Carousel Bar showcased key events in the British summertime calendar. 

With just two weeks' notice before Royal Ascot, we faced a rapid turnaround to implement the new theme. Despite a limited budget, we successfully transformed The Carousel Bar, first into the Royal Ascot theme and then into the Wimbledon theme. After finalising drawings and scenic plans with the client, we created an immersive space that captured the essence of Royal Ascot horse racing and Wimbledon tennis. 

Suspended tophats and racehorses showcase all that Royal Ascot is about, while the finer details of themed Toile De Jouy wallpaper sat within frame panelling surrounding the bar for the week of the races in June 2024. For the two week tournament of Wimbledon, golden tennis racquets and hand painted views of the iconic Wimbledon Tennis lawns adorned the bar that fit within the Mandarin Oriental’s interiors and their branding colours of gold and white. 

The carousel bar is one of the hottest tickets to sit back, sip champagne and enjoy England’s summer events live on screen. Given the nature of the luxury hotel, during build and take down for both experiences it was necessary to keep all noise and disruption as minimal as possible. The Mandarin Oriental is one of London’s leading 5 star hotels and the bar’s changeover had to be seamless. Our team worked overnight to ensure disruption was kept to a minimum and the clients were extremely pleased with this.
