Moulin Rouge Themed 18th Birthday Party

Moulin Rouge Themed 18th Birthday Party

Private Party

Welcome… to the Moulin Rouge!

Luminaire were instructed by the team at Emily Jones Events & Two Many Cooks for full production of this Moulin Rouge themed 18th Birthday party.

Working at a private home we were able to really push the production to create an immersive Moulin Rouge experience in the marquee within the private garden. Working with the client we designed and subsequently built the treehouse windmill, entrance reception desk, ‘Moulin Rouge’ sign and draping, drinks stands, back bar, dancefloor, stage, love heart backdrop, red velvet swags, ‘Nicola’s 18th’ sign for behind the stage, neon loo signs, and a ‘Moulin Rouge’ DJ Booth.

Utilising the space, we installed exterior lighting of festoon warm amber lighting on the terrace that illuminated the entryway, leading to the reception area. As the guests walked in they were greeted with the bar and an overhanging grand chandelier that was adorned with festoon swagged around the area. To create the impact of the Moulin Rouge and an immersive nightclub experience we installed colour washed moving lighting, strobes and lasers around the dancefloor - with smoke machines creating depth while the laser beams careered the room.

Using a 65” LCD screen set within a red velour box frame, floating on the walls of the marquee and above the drinks shelf we ran a photo slideshow throughout the birthday party. This was accompanied by a PA system throughout the marquee with concentration on the sound over the dancefloor.

Power throughout the event was two 40Kva generators on a single trainer, enabling uninterrupted power to production, heating, catering, bar and washrooms. We used our in house electrical distribution equipment to provide power to all appliances, not only our equipment but for all suppliers. This included a full heating system throughout the event, as this was taking place in January - the main space had two heaters, the washrooms and sleeping tent had a shared heater and the catering tent had its own heater. We also supplied two santorini-style patio heaters placed on the external terrace to keep guests warm outside the tent.

The team gained access to the site from Wednesday before the event, we were cautious not to disrupt the client while working efficiently. From the initial conversation with the client to event turn around it took 4 months, the brief and timeline enabled us to maximise our teams creative skills and therefore the production for the event. This was one of the most exciting events for us as it utilised all aspects of our team from production to scenic. The client encouraged our artistic freedom for the event and was blown away by the outcome.
